Green Dot

The environmental logo meaning the company’s membership to an organization in charge of managing household packaging waste, have led to some confusion in the minds of consumers who understood it rather as a sign for "recyclable packaging", or "to be recycled".

The anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC) of February 2020 has implemented a financial penalty (= malus) to the affixing of this logo with the article L. 541-10-3 of the French Environmental Code implying that the signs and markings that may lead to confusion on the rule of sorting or bringing of waste from the product will be affected by a financial penalty that cannot be less than the amount of the financial contribution required for waste management.

The order of November 30th, 2020 has confirmed the implementation of this penalty as of January 1st, 2021.

In a later order dated March 15th, the Council of State postponed to January 1st, 2022 the ban on affixing the GREEN DOT logo on packaging in France.

In January 2021, several professional organizations had appealed to the State Council in summary proceedings.

This will give time to the organization CITEO to publish its new graphic charter INFO TRI without the GREEN DOT logo.

However, companies willing to update their packaging immediately are dependents on the publication of the new graphic charters of the eco-organizations CITEO and ADELPHE since this Green Dot logo is most of the time integrated within the associated Info Tri/Triman logo.
